Terre di Luni, 18 July 2024 – With 48 days to go before the official start, the route of the 48th edition of the Giro della Lunigiana, to be held from 4 to 7 September, has been unveiled. There are five stages scheduled over the four days, with a double duty on 6 September as the riders will ‘split’ in the classic appointment of the half-stages. The event will be preceded on the evening of 3 September by the teams presentation which will be held, as in the last two years, in Lerici.

The presentation ceremony took place in Terre di Luni, in the presence of many representatives of institutions, local authorities and sponsors, who were keen to show their closeness to the race again this year, as underlined by the speech of the Director of The Race of the Future Champions Lucio Petacchi. Also attending the event was Lorenzo Finn, national road and time trial champion, who in 2023 came close to the final success, surrendering only to Leo Bisiaux.

THE ROUTE

STAGE 1 – LUNI-LA SPEZIA – 83.3 KM

Start from Luni for a stage that can already create the first gaps in the general classification. In particular, the ascent of Biassa seems to be an ideal springboard for those who want to shake things up on day one. La Spezia, the starting venue for the first stage in 2023, returns to host a finish after two years. On that occasion the Polish Michal Zelazowski won.

STAGE 2 – PORTOFINO-CHIAVARI – 92.6 KM

For the third year in a row the pearl of Tigullio will host The Race of the Future Champions for a stage with breathtaking scenery. Three categorised climbs are scheduled with the last one, the Bocco, less than 10 km from the finish line, which in 2023 saw the victory of Maxime Decomble.

STAGE 3A – SARZANA-MARINA DI MASSA – 37.1 KM

Friday 6 July will open with a stage entirely dedicated to fast wheels. The half-stage will offer a chance for the sprinters. If Sarzana is a classic venue of the Race of the Future Champions, Marina di Massa returns to host a stage finish after 7 years, the last winner was Lorenzo Giopp.

STAGE 3B – SESTRI LEVANTE-BOLANO – 58.6 KM

First and last uphill finish of Lunigiana 2024, which returns to climb the 3.6 km final ascent where in 2023 Jarno Widar completed his personal double in the Maglia Verde. Sestri Levante welcomes the race for the first time in its history.

STAGE 4 – FIVIZZANO-TERRE DI LUNI – 99.3 KM

The final stage is also the longest of this edition. The triple climb to Montemarcello will be the final judge and the Maglia Verde of this edition will be crowned in Terre di Luni. Located in Ameglia, Terre di Luni hosted the finish of a Lunigiana stage for the first time in 2023 with the victory of Lorenzo Mottes.
